Sladers Yard, Bridport

Slader’s Yard is an ambitious contemporary art gallery and acclaimed café set in an unspoilt Georgian rope warehouse in West Bay, Bridport, England.

Slader’s Yard sells contemporary British art, handmade furniture and designer craft. The venue holds regular art exhibitions and live events at Café Sladers.

I was approached to update the Slader’s Yard website in 2021 from a WordPress blog. The client wanted a minimal web design that would be uncluttered and easy to navigate.

Using WordPress and Elementor Pro, I created a bespoke custom theme, including e-commerce and an extensive artists’ library. The website is responsive and works on desktop, tablet and mobile layouts.

For a long time, I have wanted to create an extensive artists’ website, including a large selection of biographies in the artist library, without the client being locked into an exclusive network or agency, or dated website styling.

Based in Cornwall, I see a lot of this kind of activity with galleries and artists.

I enjoy working with artists and galleries—helping them realise their dream of being self-sufficient.

I like my clients to have the keys to their websites. The Slader’s Yard website proves that a solo designer and developer can do it without a huge team behind them.

We are delighted with the site Fiona has built for us. We have had many compliments about it. It is a big site and took time to build mainly because we were so busy running the gallery and the old website while the stock is changing all the time. Fiona has been wonderfully patient and always good-humoured and responsive to ideas. Her design is a joy and a pleasure to work with. We are now running the site ourselves with Fiona as a really helpful and reassuring back-up.
